OLR News Term 2 Week 9 2024!
Principal's Update
Welcome to Week 9 and Wellbeing Week!
I hope you have had a great weekend.
Athletics Carnival:
We had sunshine!! I can’t tell you how pleased I was that it didn’t rain, and we were able to run the carnival. This athletics carnival is always a very full, fun day and the children had a great time. Congratulations to the children who have progressed to the next level. We wish them well and know they will make us proud regardless of the outcome.
Thank you again to the many parent helpers. Without your help, this day could not happen!
Wellbeing Week Mufti Day:
More information regarding Wellbeing Week will come out, but I wanted to let you know about our Denim / Winter Woolies / PJs Mufti Day on Wednesday. We are inviting children to wear whichever of these they like, or a combination, and to bring in a gold coin donation for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
Parent Teacher Interviews:
Don’t forget to book your Parent Teacher Interviews through Compass. They will be held on Wednesday 3rd July. Student Academic Reports will be available on Compass from Friday this week.
Staff Development Days:
There are two more Staff Development Days, one on the last day of this term, Friday 5th July and the second on the first day of next term, Monday 22nd July.
The Friday 5th July SDD is a Diocesan wide day with a focus on the Diocesan Towards 2025 Strategy.
The Monday 22nd July SDD is also a Diocesan wide day, however each school is able to choose an area of Curriculum Reform relevant to where the staff is in their Professional Learning. We have spent much of our Professional Learning Time this year focused on the teaching of English therefore our focus for this day will be the new Mathematics Curriculum.
Changes to early pick up procedure:
If you are collecting your child early from school you will need to do the following:
- Come into the office and sign your child out on the Kiosk (this is for parents/Caregivers only)
- Take the slip to the classroom, hand it to the teacher and wait outside the room for your child.
This is due to the many interruptions to the classes during the day.
We ask that you do not try to discuss your child with the teacher at this time as they will continue teaching while your child gathers their things.
If you have someone else collecting your child early, you need to contact the school office (not on seesaw) and let them know who will be collecting.
I hope you have a wonderful week and take time for yourself and your own wellbeing!
Kind regards
Yvette Owens
Wellbeing Week
This week is Wellbeing Week. Our Wellbeing Coordinator as planned several activities for the students to participate in through the week. These include a Kindness Challenge, Wellbeing Walks for each grade in the local area, the Letter Challenge where students will take the time to write a letter of gratitude to a friend or family member.
On Wednesday as part of Wellbeing Week we will have a Mufti Day for all students. Students are encouraged to wear Denim, Winter Woolies or Pj's.
We are looking forward to a week of reflection, wellbeing and kindness.
Thank you to Mrs Johnson for planning this special week for us all.

Office News!
Holiday Leave
If you are going on leave, please read the guidelines below.
- If under 10 school days, please put this on Compass and send the teachers a Seesaw message as a curtesy to let them know.
- If over 10 school days, please collect relevant paperwork from the school office, complete and return it so that Principal can approve. This will be entered on Compass for you and you will be emailed the approval. Please send the teachers a Seesaw message as a curtesy to let them know.
Early Pick Up Permission
If your child is being collected early by someone other than a parent, it is a requirement that a parent calls or emails the office to give permission. Parents will need to provide the name of the person collecting their child. We ask that you do not send this to the class teacher via Seesaw as they may not see it until after school. Please note that the person you have as an Emergency contact is for us to use if we cannot contact you in the event of illness/emergency. This does not give them permission to pick up early.
Emergency Contacts & Change of Routine information
Please note that the Emergency Contact we have for your child is for the school to use in an emergency if we can't contact the parents/guardian. Emergency Contacts do not have permission to collect your child during school hours.
If your child is being collected early by someone other than parent/guardian, or has a change of routine after school, please contact the school office to notify us of this. Do not send a message to the teacher via Seesaw re these changes as they may be away or not see it as they are teaching. The Office staff will not allow collection of a child until we have confirmed this with a parent/guardian.
Medication at School - A reminder that Request to Administer Medication forms need to be completed each year. If your child had the completed form in 2023, you are covered for a short time, but please have the doctor complete this asap.
If your child has never had medication at school but now needs to do so, please have the attached form completed, signed and stamped by the doctor and bring the medication to the school office in the original container. This includes prescription medication as well as over the counter meds (pharmacists can complete this form for puffers and over the counter meds. Without this completed form, we are unable to have the medication on site (please do not put medications in your child's bag for them to take).

Athletics Carnival Wrap
Yesterday's school athletics carnival was an outstanding success! Despite starting off with a chilly morning, the 800m race quickly warmed us up and set the tone for a day filled with excitement and camaraderie. The full schedule of events, including track, field, and novelty activities, showcased not only the talents of our students but also their remarkable sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Smiles and cheers were abundant from start to finish, creating an atmosphere of joy and friendly competition.
A special mention goes to Amber and the canteen crew for their hard work in keeping everyone fuelled with delicious sausage sandwiches, which were a hit among participants and spectators alike. Their dedication added an extra layer of joy and delight to the day.
We extend heartfelt thanks to Mr. Trent, our dedicated teachers, parent volunteers, and supportive spectators for their invaluable contributions. Your efforts helped make the carnival a fabulous and memorable event for everyone involved. Here's to many more successful and spirited gatherings in the future!

Parent Engagement Update!
Sacrament of Confirmation 2024 – Expressions of Interest
Attention all parents and carers of students in year 3 and above who are interested in having their child receive the Sacrament of Confirmation:
Please carefully read the following information and feel free to contact the parish office if you have any questions on Ph: 4332 2216.
- Please complete the Expression of Interest Form if you are considering the Sacrament of Confirmation for your child. It's important to note that completing this form does NOT enrol your child into the Sacramental program.
- The purpose of this Expression of Interest Form is to help us assist families who wish for their child/ren to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and to ensure their eligibility for this Sacrament.
- It is also to identify those families who are not able to attend our Confirmation ceremony at 7pm on Friday 15 November 2024. Our ceremony is the last one for the year in the Diocese, so if your child is not available for this date they may need to wait until next year or speak with a member of our Sacramental Team to discuss other options for your child to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
- Completing this form will also help us determine the number of children to be prepared for Confirmation and ensure that we have sufficient resources to cater to the increased numbers in our Sacramental program.
- To enrol your child for the Sacrament of Confirmation you will be required to attend the Information and Enrolment evening, 7pm Tuesday 6 August 2024 at the Parish Hall, 239-243 The Entrance Road, The Entrance. If you are unable to attend this evening, please contact the parish office on 4332 2216 to make an appointment during office hours to meet with a member of the Sacramental Team. (please allow at least 40 minutes for this appointment).
- Please see the attached flyer for more information and use either the link below or the QR code to complete the Expression of Interest form. The information collected may be used in the enrolment process.
Please complete the Expression of Interest Form
Please feel free to share this information with friends and family whose children may attend other schools in our parish eg: The Entrance Public, Bateau Bay Public, Brooke Avenue Public, and Killarney Vale Public.
