Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.
Last week I attended the Canberra Excursion with our Year 6 students. This is always a highlight for me as I get to spend quality time with our Year 6 students. The students were wonderful representatives of our school. Their behaviour as well as sharing all they have learnt made us very proud. I hope you enjoyed sharing the Canberra excursion experience through the photos we posted on Facebook.
Our students are and will always be my priority and the reason I do all that I do! But my care for them goes beyond just ensuring they have the best learning opportunities, it’s also about getting to know them as individual little people. As I have said on so many occasions, our students are an extension of my family and I genuinely care for each and every one of them!
The cold weather has brought with it many colds and flus. Please look after yourselves and stay well. We have many RAT kits, please let the office know if you need any.
Have a fabulous week.

ATTENDANCE – Learning Everyday Counts
As a school, we are required to monitor student attendance and support families to maintain daily school attendance for our students.
As a whole school, we have noticed an increase in school absences, including partial absences. We understand that this has, in part, been a hangover from the Covid pandemic. As a society, we are more hypervigilant with sickness and many families are taking opportunities to travel.
However, it is important to remember all absences including partial absences (late arrivals and early pick-ups) add up and can significantly impact your child’s ability to learn and maintain social connections.
Early pick-ups in particular, can not only impact your child, but can be very disruptive to their class (especially when there are multiple early pick-ups in the afternoon session). We do ask that parents avoid early pick-ups where possible.
Please see the attached flyer from the CSBB Attendance Campaign “Learning Everyday Counts” as well as Tips For Parents – supporting your child’s attendance at school.

Religious Education Update
This weekend, the Church celebrates the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost is the celebration of the of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles, Mary, and the first followers of Jesus, who were gathered together in the days after Jesus’ ascension to heaven. The Gospel reading tells us that a strong wind filled the room where they were gathered and tongues of fire came to rest on their heads, allowing them to speak in different languages so that they could understand each other. The Holy Spirit also gave them special gifts to help them in their mission of spreading the Good News of Jesus to all the lands.
The Feast of Pentecost reminds us that we too, are disciples of Jesus who are called upon to spread the Good News. At the Sacrament of Confirmation, we are given the same gifts that the Holy Spirit gave those gathered in the room on that first Pentecost.
As we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, we pray that, guided by the Holy Spirit, we may be people who live the example of Jesus and spread his message of love to all those we meet.

Parent Engagement Coordinator (PEC) Update
This week I attended the Parent Community Network (PCN) meeting held on Monday evening at 7pm. We had a good number attend for such a cool evening, and some parents chose to attend via Zoom from the comfort and warmth of their own homes. They say a quick meeting is a good meeting and I am happy to say that the meeting started at 7pm and was wrapped up around 7:37pm. There was a bit to discuss but overall, the meeting went smoothly. Keep watch for more information from the PCN team especially about the upcoming Walkathon.
Since the last newsletter I have also attended the Year 6 and Year 5 grade Masses. Just a reminder that parents and grandparents are welcome to attend these Masses. I know it is not always possible to attend due to work commitments etc, but the children really do like seeing family members attend to support them in their faith journey.
Last week I shared the link to the Council of Catholic School Parents Newsletter via each grade’s Facebook page. If you missed it here is the link again Council of Catholic School Parents Newsletter. It has some really good articles in it including an article on CSBB’s very own Simon Hyland about the World Youth Day anthem, Magnify, for Broken Bay Diocese.
Don’t forget to join me and other parents (grandparents are also welcome) on Thursday mornings for a cuppa and a chat. Last week we covered some library books for our school library. We all had such a great time chatting and sharing some laughter that we forgot that we actually doing, (something we all hate doing) covering books!! Right?? Anyway, we were all very proud of our efforts and we didn’t even have any bubbles in our contact covers. Thank you to those that attended. We would love to see more people join us for a cuppa and help with these activities.

Broken Bay Cross Country
A huge congratulations to all the students who attended the Broken Bay Cross Country on Tuesday. Our students from OLR put in a tremendous effort. They represented our school against competing schools from the Broken Bay Diocese and showed such determination and heart in all of their races. Thank you to all the parents who attended the carnival to show their support and lend a hand on the day.
A further congratulations to the following students who have progressed to the next round and will now go on to compete at NSWCPS Polding Cross Country Selections in June.

PBL - Positive Behaviours For Learning
Students have been learning this week to 'Care for ourselves'. Students looked at what makes them unique and special and how it is important to care for our physical self but it is also important to care for our emotional self by being kind and having positive self talk. Students looked at the 'zones of regulation' again and came up with strategies to get themselves back into the green zone. Our wonderful PBL team taught this lesson to our Kindy, year 1 and year 2 students and showed maturity and respect when teaching.
In other PBL news Petey Bobby Lewis was awarded to K Red by our PBL spotter Mrs Strachan. He has been spending the last week and a half in K Red who have enjoyed his company and sharing their learning with him. Our new PBL spotter is currently on the hunt looking for a class who is following all our school rules, trying to regulate their emotions and being a good learner.
Our rule for weeks 6 and 7 is 'We are learners when we do our best'.
