Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. It was great to see the children all snug and warm during our winter warmers mufti day on Friday, leading nicely into the weekend.
During Wellbeing Week last week, we set the children a kindness challenge. I was having a difficult week and I can’t tell you how much the beautiful notes and messages from our children lifted my spirits and reminded me yet again how wonderful they all are.
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the various events this term. You are all such an important part of our community, and we appreciate the support you give at these events.
There are so many events on throughout the school year and, as parents, we try to attend as many as possible. For some parents, it is easier to be at these events than it is for others. There may be work commitments, young children at home or even older or ill family members to care for.
We know that sometimes parents feel guilty that they cannot be at the various events. Please don’t, we know and understand the many commitments parents face. We offer as many events as we can for the children, but we also hope that by offering these events at various times over the year give you the opportunity to attend as many, or as few, that work for you. Support by parents for these events is not only shown by being there!
Have a wonderful week.
Kind regards
Yvette

First Communion
Congratulations to all students who made their First Holy Communion this weekend. We pray that this will be the first of many opportunities they will have to share in this Eucharistic meal and that God will continue to bless them throughout their lives. On Thursday the children attended an Enrichment Day at the Parish as part of their preparation for First Holy Communion.
Feast of the Sacred Heart
Next Friday, we will be celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The heart is the universal symbol of love. The heart of Jesus is so full of love that he shares his love with everyone. This special feast day celebrates the love that Jesus has for all of us. We pray that we will be inspired to show this same love to others.
We will celebrate with a whole school Liturgy at 9am on Friday morning in the courtyard. You are most welcome to join us for this.

Parent Engagement Coordinator (PEC) Update
It has been a busy couple of weeks with attending the ‘Getting to Know You’ sessions for our 2024 Kinder parents. This was a lovely opportunity to meet many of our current families at these sessions and have them give tips to our new incoming families of things they find helpful and the benefits of having children at our school.
The Thursday morning ‘Cuppa Catch Up’ has been in full swing the last couple of weeks with preparing the Walkathon passports for the children and working out some of the logistics and signage. Thank you to the parents who take the time to attend these mornings. We would love to have more parents and grandparents come and join us for a chat and some fun activities that benefit our children and teachers in the school.
Congratulations to our PCN team who coordinated and ran a very successful Walkathon. What a great way to teach our children about road safety.
I am really enjoying my dual role working between the parish office and here at the school as it allows me to attend the year Masses with Fr Brian. This week our visiting Seminarian, Tân, has started to assist Fr Brian at these Masses. We love seeing the parents and grandparents attending these Masses as it is a great opportunity to see what the children are focusing on in their religion lessons. The theme for the Year 2 Mass last week was Friendship and the children’s participation in the Mass was wonderful. The children ended the Mass with a beautiful photo slideshow on friendship which I have shared below. Enjoy! 😊

Walkathon
What a fabulous day we were blessed with for the Walkathon!
The PCN wishes to extend a great big thank you to all the volunteers who so generously gave their time, energy, and support to help make the day a great success. Without your hard work, the day would not have been possible, so thank you!
Much went on behind the scenes to make this event possible, so here’s a big shout out to:
* Stef, PCN Events Co-Coordinator, who developed the brilliant idea to incorporate having our students learn about the importance of road safety while enjoying the fun of the Walkathon, then worked tirelessly planning, organising, talking to, emailing, and phoning people;
* Kate, PCN Events Co-Coordinator, for sharing ideas, helping to keep the day on track, and keeping Stef and Jen calm;
* Jenny, PCN Secretary, for cheering Stef on, walking/mapping walk routes, placing/removing signs and balloons, writing names on 577 certificates, and displaying her cool scooter skills lol;
* Volunteers, for being patient and understanding with your queries, cutting tops off zooper doopers and bagging them by class, blowing up balloons, bagging thank you gifts, counting wrist bands, keeping our kids safe, and having fun;
* Thursday Coffee and Catch Up Group with Colleen aka Unofficial Events Team, for brainstorming ideas, offering suggestions and feedback, and for their amazing productivity in preparing and assembling passports for the kids;
* Principal/Senior Staff/Office Staff, for listening to ideas, offering advice, and being super supportive in every way;
* Teachers/Support Staff, for ensuring the Walkathon was safe and fun for all our children; and
* Students, for being responsible, polite, safe, and having lots of fun!
Special thanks also go to:
* Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation, for presenting a talk to our children about child pedestrian road safety. Michelle McLaughlin tragically lost her son Tom in a road accident at the age of four and has used her experience to educate, advocate, and bring awareness to keeping all kids safe;
* Inflatable Bounce House at Berkeley Vale, for donating gift vouchers for free entry to every student;
* Bunnings at Tuggerah, for donating water drum and taps to keep our walkers hydrated; and
* Muffin Break at Bateau Bay Square, for donating some tasty treats.
Next meeting
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 21 June. It will be a quick Zoom meeting to discuss actions stemming from our meeting in Week 5.

IT Enrichment Day
On Wednesday we hosted a Digital Technologies Enrichment Day at school. Students from OLR enjoyed learning with students from Holy Cross Kincumber, St John Fisher Tumbi Umbi and St Cecilia's Wyong. The activities aimed to extend learning outcomes for students by allowing them to develop and utilise their expertise in the usage and functionality of technology.
Students worked in small groups to question, explore and problem solve using technology, including Micro:Bits, ChatGPT, Augmented Reality and Spheros, whilst developing an awareness and appreciation for how using technology can enhance their own learning.
