OLR News Term 2 Week 10
Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to week 10.
I can’t believe we are nearing the end of another term!
Thank you for all to all the parents who were able to volunteer their time for the Athletics Carnival on Friday. It was a great day and lots of fun for our children.
One of our goals for this year is to rewrite our School Vision and Mission Statements, our previous statements were written over twenty years ago. These statements should describe the way our whole community sees our school. To achieve this, we would like feedback from all members of our community. We would also like to include representatives from all parts of our community to be members of a working party to develop the statements. To ensure we have the voice of everyone, could you please follow this link to complete a very simple form. We are looking forward to this process and developing statements that truly reflect who we are at OLR.
Vision & Mission Feedback Form
I haven’t provided a building update in a while. This is because there has been very little progress. The building company should be organised in the next few weeks, and we are still waiting on Council approval. Hopefully this will happen soon as well. I will update you all as soon as I hear anything more.
I hope you have a really wonderful holiday. There are lots of colds and flus going around and I pray that you all remain well and enjoy the break.
Take care and stay well.

NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of this. The theme of this years’ NAIDOC Week is “For Our Elders”.
Next Wednesday, all students will be participating in a variety of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Activities will include dancing, learning about a range of artifacts, and listening to stories told by a local Aboriginal Elder.
We are very grateful to our Aboriginal Education Worker, Mrs Jodie Bourke, for her organisation of the day.
Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
This Tuesday, June 27th, is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. On this day, we remember that Mary is always interceding on our behalf that God will look upon us with grace and mercy. Anyone wishing to celebrate this Feast Day is warmly welcome to join Year 3 in their Grade Mass at 10am in the hall.
Thank you for your continued support this term. It has been lovely to see families joining us for the Liturgies and Masses that we have had. Your presence shows all students, the importance of our shared faith experiences.
Wishing you a fabulous holiday break and hoping it brings some opportunities for both fun and relaxing times as a family.
Upcoming Liturgical Celebrations
Tuesday June 27th – Year 3 Grade Mass at school
Families are most welcome to join us for these celebrations.

Parent Engagement Coordinator (PEC) Update
One of the most enjoyable things about my role as the Parent Engagement Coordinator at the school is welcoming children at the school gate in the morning on the days I am at the school. I love hearing the children’s stories like their loose teeth and meeting their siblings, it makes me smile to see the love that they share with their younger brothers and sisters. It is also lovely to say hello to parents and have a chat if they are not rushing off to work. Please feel free to introduce yourself to me if you have time, I am always happy to have a chat and answer questions.
One of the benefits of my dual role with the school and parish is that I also coordinate the Sacramental Program at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish. I have found this has been a great way to connect and get to know families to support them both at the school and the parish Sacramental Program in their child’s journey of faith. For those that may not be aware, the order of reception of the Sacraments in the Diocese of Broken Bay is Baptism, Confirmation, First Reconciliation and then First Eucharist. Children who are Baptised Catholic are usually prepared for the sacrament of Confirmation in Year 3 and the sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in Year 4.
The Sacramental preparation program in our parish, and indeed throughout the Diocese of Broken Bay, is a parish based and family centred process. It is structured in a way for parents and their child to work through the booklets together as part of a parish sacramental group under the guidance of a group leader, and to continue the discussion and exercises at home. Both parish and family play an important role in journeying with the children towards full initiation into the Church.
Sacrament of Confirmation: Parents of children in Year 3 and above who are Baptised Catholic are invited to attend the Information and Enrolment evening for the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday 1 August at 7:00pm at Our Lady of the Rosary, Parish Hall, The Entrance. The Sacrament of Confirmation is when the graces your child received at Baptism are sealed with the reception of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. Please see attached flyer which includes a letter to parents and dates for your diary.
The latest edition of Parent Talk is now available for Council of Catholic School Parents (CCSP). Please click on the link to read. Parent Talk There is an article regarding the Back to School vouchers and a reminder that they will expire on 30 June 2023, so be sure to use these vouchers if you haven’t done so already.

PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning)
Students have been learning this week to 'Play fairly and include others'. Students learnt about fair and unfair play, how to ask to join a game, how to ask others to join their game and acted out different scenarios.
Our wonderful PBL team taught this lesson to our Kindy, year 1 and year 2 students and showed maturity and respect when teaching.
In other PBL news, Petey Bobby Lewis was awarded to 4 Red by our PBL spotter Mrs MacLeod. Our new PBL spotter is currently on the hunt looking for a class who is following all our school rules, playing fairly and including others.
Athletics Carnival
On Friday we held our Athletics Carnvial at Mingara! The whole school came together for the carnival for the first time in 3 years due to Covid and rain!
We kicked off a chilly morning just after 8am with the 800m events. It didn't take the runners long to warm up though.
The morning was a flurry of activity with 100m races, field events and novelty events for our Kindy and Year 1 students.
Mingara was a field of colour as the students proudly wore there team colours. They participated in as many events as possible to get those all important team points.
A huge thank you to Mr Trent for all your efforts in planning and running this day for the children, and all the staff for there help and support of a great day.
Thank you to the parent volunteers we couldn’t do a day like this with out your assistance and support in running the events.
And to all the parent and grandparent spectators who joined us for the fun!
