OLR News Term 4 Week 4
Principal's Update
Dear Parents,
What a great night we had on Friday at the Spring Carnival. It was wonderful to see so many families attend and the children all seemed to have a great night. A huge thank you to the parents who organised the event and the stall holders for setting up their wares. Due to the rain we had to go with plan B and it was heartwarming to see so many families still come along to enjoy the evening.
I want to also take this opportunity to thank our amazing teachers. It was International Teachers’ Day on Friday and the teachers at OLR go above and beyond for our families. Friday night was a great example of this dedication and generosity of spirit of all our teachers. Thank you, Teachers, our school community is so very lucky to have each and every one of you!
We would also like to send a thank you to Tan from the Parish for cooking almost 1000 sausages at the carnival!
Events like the Spring Carnival are important for building a strong and connected community. It's heartening to see so many families come together and enjoy each other's company. And it's also important to recognise and appreciate the hard work of those who make these events possible, such as the parents, stall holders, and teachers. Their dedication and hard work are truly appreciated, and they deserve all the recognition and appreciation for their efforts in making the event a success.

Fees
CSBB are hoping that statements are going to sent out in early November. CSBB have had to wait till all schools in the diocese have rolled over to compass correctly before they send them.
Please continue to use the Bpay details found on your past statements. If you have any questions, please contact schoolfees@dbb.catholic.org.au or 7256 2888.
Medication at school
Please ensure the attached form is completed by your doctor prior to bringing medication into school for your child. It must be signed and stamped by the doctor.

Compass Entries
Away for the whole day - Please ensure you enter your child's sick days/full day appointments etc on Compass the day they are away - you only have 7 days to enter these absences.
Arriving Late/Leaving Early - Please only enter this on the kiosk in the school foyer when you arrive/picking up. Do not enter this on Compass. You can certainly send the teacher a courtesy note on Seesaw to let them know, but not on Compass please.
Sick Bay - If you receive a call asking you to collect your child from Sick Bay, please note that we will sign them out.
A gentle reminder - we ask that pick ups during Recess (10.55 - 11.35) and Lunch (1.35 - 2.15) be limited as it is difficult for students to hear on the playground when we call them.
Change of Address
Can you please notify us of change of address, emails and mobile numbers as soon as this occurs so that we can update our system?
Light Up the Day for Kay
Tuesday 14th November!
Caring for those less fortunate and giving to others was always something that was close to our beautiful Ms Taylor’s heart. As a tribute to her and her tireless work we are starting a special charity drive starting on Tuesday 14th November with a Colour Day and a dance-off. We invite parents to come along at 2.45pm to watch/participate in a whole school dance-off.
As part of her giving Ms Taylor worked with those less fortunate. To celebrate the amazing work she did we are asking each family to bring an item for us to donate to Central Coast Kids in Need. These unwrapped gifts will be wrapped and given as Christmas gifts to children in need.

Term 4 Library Lessons!
Thank you
Thank you to the wonderful parent helpers who volunteered to move the Library books and shelves out of the Library and into the Library container. We couldn’t have moved without you and appreciate the time you gave to help us on such a hot day!
Thank you also to all the staff and students who helped during the move as well.
Library Lessons
Library lessons will be in classes from now until the end of the year. We will continue to read and respond to quality literature in the classrooms. Each class has a selection of Picture Books and novels in their rooms so that students can read and borrow each week. These books will be swopped throughout the term. Students should bring their Library Bags on their Library Day to store their borrowed books in.
In Week One we read the beautiful book, Australia from Dawn to Dusk by Brentos. This picture book describes a day in Australia from one stunning location to another.
It’s a new day in Australia. Let’s follow the sun. Wake up with kookaburras on Arakwal Country (Byron Bay), bask with wombats on wulinantikala (Cradle Mountain), watch black and red cockatoos flying over Anangu Country, scratch the Daintree Rainforest floor with cassowaries on Kuku Yalanji Country, and go to sleep as quokkas wake up on Whadjuk Noongar Country (Rottnest Island).
The students enjoyed learning about unique Australian animals and places, admiring the spectacular pastel-coloured illustrations and spotting a surfing koala on each page.
The students responded to the text through a variety of creative responses. We can’t wait to see the finished products. Here are some of our works in progress.
