OLR News Term 1 Week 10 2024
Cross Country Update
Unfortunately due to the extreme amount of rain we received on Friday, the Long Jetty foreshore is too wet to run the Cross Country there tomorrow.
At this stage, we are hoping to run it at school and are asking for the students in Years 2 to 6 to come dressed in their sports uniforms. If the oval is too wet at school, we will have to delay the run until the first week next term.
If the school grounds are ok and we run it tomorrow, we are going to allow the children to choose whether or not they want to run the course. Can you please discuss this possibility with your child, so they know what they want to do?
We will organise a Kinder and Year 1 fun run early next term.
Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
One of the aspects we really love about returning to school straight after Easter is having the opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ as a school community. Our children again displayed incredible reverence during this celebration.
Unfortunately, we were not able to run the School Cross Country on Friday due to the weather. We are definitely looking forward to running the event tomorrow and thank all the parents who are able to help out.
On Tuesday, our staff attended a combined Diocesan Staff Development Day at St John Fisher Tumbi with the Tumbi and the Our Lady Star of the Sea Terrigal staff. It was a really great day spent learning more about Curriculum Reform and specifically about moderating student work samples and the impact this has on the allocation of grades.
This was the first of three days dedicated to Curriculum Reform and working alongside other Diocesan schools.
We have our next Staff Development Day on Friday 12th April this day is dedicated to staff spirituality and we will be working with Fr Brian to develop our understanding of the Mass and how to plan reverent, meaningful Masses for our students.
This year, we have been allocated extra Staff Development Days to ensure all teachers in our Diocese are current in understanding the new curriculum and applying it in the classroom. While these days are important for our students’ learning, we definitely understand the difficulty this places on families to have their children cared for on these days.
I hope your children enjoy the last week of the term and you all have a truly wonderful holiday break!
Please stay safe and well and we will see you next Term!
Kind regards
Yvette Owens

WATER FUN DAY INFO
🌊🎉 Dive into the fun at our Water Fun Day on April 11th! But wait, the excitement doesn't stop there! Join us for a pre-fun picnic where families can fuel up before splashing into a day filled with laughter, games, and refreshing water activities. It's the perfect opportunity to bond with your little ones while soaking up the sun. Don't miss out on the splash-tastic adventure – mark your calendars and bring your swimsuits! Let's make waves and memories together! 🌞💦
Before we cannonball into the excitement, let's talk essentials. Sun's out, shirts or rashies on, because we're all about keeping our kiddies safe from the sun's rays while they have some fun! And for the fashion-forward crowd, closed-toe shoes are a must – sorry, sandals, but we're on a mission to keep those little toes protected.
Now, for the mini Aquamen and Aquawomen staying behind after the event, don't forget to pack them some dry clothes – because nobody wants to see them shivering like penguins at the end of the day! You're welcome to take you children home after the event if you are attending! But hey, if you're up for the challenge of being the coolest parent around, sign up below to volunteer and join our league of water warriors. Let's make a splash and create memories that'll last a lifetime!
