OLR News Term 2 Week 4 2024
Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend regardless of the cold weather.
Family Mass and First Eucharist:
We had our family Mass at OLR Church last night and it was great to see so many of our families there. It was a lovely mass and getting together afterwards and enjoying the pizza and other treats so generously supplied by the parish added to the sense of community. The children preparing to receive their first Eucharist were presented to the congregation and blessed by all. Please keep these children in your prayers as they continue their personal journey of faith.
Kinder 2025:
I spent most of last week interviewing prospective families to join our school community with their Kindergarten children. I met truly beautiful families who I would happily welcome into our community, unfortunately we have had a large number of enrolments but really limited space.
The really lovely part of these interviews, apart from meeting the families, is hearing how well they speak of our community, especially our children. I am very proud of our school community, we are so lucky to have wonderful families.
Building:
I went for a walk with the architects and builders through the building site earlier this week and was so impressed with the progress. We have walls and the windows are going in and it looks incredible. We are on track which is fabulous.
Year 6 Canberra Excursion:
Year 6 will be heading off to Canberra for their excursion this week. I always look forward to spending this time with the Year 6 students and getting to know them on a more personal level. We hope they have a great time and represent our school really well.
Monday Afternoon Assembly Time:
We have decided to change the Assembly start time to 2:20 from this week. As we have moved all the PBL Awards to the afternoon assembly, we need more time to present them all.
Broken Bay Cross Country:
I wish all the children competing at the Diocesan Cross Country well. I hope you have fun and do your best.
I hope you all have a wonderful week.
Kind regards
Yvette Owens

Office News
Changes to Photo Permissions
If you update your child's photo permission in the event form on Compass we kindly request that you also notify the teacher and the office of this change.
Emergency Contacts & Change of Routine information
Please note that the Emergency Contact we have for your child is for the school to use in an emergency if we can't contact the parents/guardian. Emergency Contacts do not have permission to collect your child during school hours.
If your child is being collected early by someone other than parent/guardian, or has a change of routine after school, please contact the school office to notify us of this. Do not send a message to the teacher via Seesaw re these changes as they may be away or not see it as they are teaching. The Office staff will not allow collection of a child until we have confirmed this with a parent/guardian.
Medication at School - A reminder that Request to Administer Medication forms need to be completed each year. If your child had the completed form in 2023, you are covered for a short time, but please have the doctor complete this asap.
If your child has never had medication at school but now needs to do so, please have the attached form completed, signed and stamped by the doctor and bring the medication to the school office in the original container. This includes prescription medication as well as over the counter meds (pharmacists can complete this form for puffers and over the counter meds. Without this completed form, we are unable to have the medication on site (please do not put medications in your child's bag for them to take).
Simultaneuous Story Time
National Simultaneous Storytime 2024 - Wednesday 22nd May
Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker.
We are looking forward to participating in this event and completing some enjoyable story time activities. NSS 2024 will be held on Wednesday 22nd May 2024 at 12pm (AEST)
NSS has been running for 24 successful years. It is an exciting, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
This year’s book is Bowerbird Blues by Aurora Parker, an Australian author and illustrator. We will be reading this story simultaneously with over two million readers across Australia, New Zealand and the world. Students will be completing some fun educational activities related to the text throughout the week.
