OLR News Week 10 2023
Assistant Principal's Update
Dear Families,
I can’t believe we have reached the last week of Term 1! And what a term it has been!
There is so much happening this week for our whole community to enjoy! A huge thank you to all staff and parents as well as students who have given their time to ensure the Cross Country, Easter Hat Parade, Easter Raffle and the Water Fun Day can be enjoyed by all.
Prime Energy Drinks
Prime Energy Drinks seem to be the latest craze and are unfortunately causing problems at school. Due to this, as well as the nature of the drinks not being a healthy choice that we would encourage students having at school, we ask that these drinks are not brought to school. We also ask that empty Prime bottles are not used as drink bottles.
Miss Salmon and Mrs Brennan
We had a celebration on Friday morning to wish Miss Salmon well in the lead up to her wedding! She had a practice wedding at assembly just to make sure she was prepared for the real deal!! Congratulations Miss Salmon! Or should we call you Mrs Strachan?
This term we farewell Mrs Brennan and wish her well as she prepares for the birth of her baby! We can’t wait to hear news of the arrival of her bundle of joy!
I hope all families have a happy and holy Easter break.

Religious Education Update
This week, we enter the most sacred time of the Church year as we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. On Thursday morning at 9am in the courtyard, we will be having a whole school Liturgy which will introduce the events of Holy Week. Students will then spend time in class during the day reflecting and praying in further detail about them. You are most welcome to join us for the 9am Liturgy at which Kindergarten will be leading us in song about Palm Sunday.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Congratulations to the students who made the Sacrament of Reconciliation last week. We pray that they will always experience the healing presence of God’s forgiveness in their lives.
Thank You
Thank you to all who have been able to help this term with the painting of the wooden figurines being used in Religious Education lessons. Your help is truly appreciated! We will hold some more session next term. All are welcome to come along!

PBL - Positive Behaviours For Learning
Students have been learning this week about 'Learning and letting others Learn'. Our wonderful PBL girls went down to Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 to teach their PBL lesson. All students K-6 learnt about being a good learner and what that looks like in the classroom. They were introduced to the 'Zones of Regulation' and students listened to a story called 'The Colour Monster' and learnt some strategies they could use to help them stay in the green zone so they are ready for learning.
In other PBL news Petey Bobby Lewis was awarded to 4 Blue by our PBL spotter Mrs Smith. He has been spending the last week and a half in 4 Blue who have enjoyed his company and sharing their learning with him. Our new PBL spotter is currently on the hunt looking for a class who is following all our school rules, trying to regulate their emotions and being a good learner.

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers we have had in the canteen this term, it has been incredible to have so much help! Please check the new Term 2 roster for your name and if there are any issues with the day you have been given, let me know and I can swap it around.

OLR Cross Country
The Cross Country is due to be run tomorrow Monday 3rd April at Long Jetty Foreshore. We are hoping for an improvement in the weather and will make a decision in the morning according to the weather and condition of Long Jetty Foreshore. Please keep an eye out on Compass for the update.
The students will be walking to the park from school. All students will need to wear their sports uniform on this day and suitable running shoes. Students will need to carry their Recess and drink bottles to the park, so we suggest a small backpack or bag that they can easily carry.
Kindergarten and Year 1 will be having a Fun Run around Saltwater Creek Park near the playground area. Years 2-6 age groups will be competing for the school Cross Country Team. The 11 and 12 year old age groups will be running along the bike track for 3km starting and finishing from the Long Jetty side of the boat ramp. The 8, 9 and 10 year old age groups will be running 2km starting and finishing from the boat ramp as well.
The top six runners from each age will be selected to represent the school at the Central Coast Catholic Primary Schools Cross Country Carnival to be held on Friday, the 5th of May at The Central Coast Regional Sports Centre Tuggerah.
To help with the safety of the children at the event, we will need 16 parent helpers. If you are able to help out, please email Mr Trent at olrte@dbb.catholic.edu.au

Tips From The Office:
Emergency Contacts - on your enrolment application, you put down an Emergency Contact for your child. This is for the school to use in an emergency if we can't contact the parents. This does not give that person permission to collect early etc. If your child is being collected early from school, you need to notify the school office (please do not send the teacher a Seesaw message as they may not see it or could be away).
We need parent permission for early pick up for two reasons:
- To give permission for a particular person to collect your child on your behalf
- So that you are aware they are leaving school early as this time will show on their absentees
